OLAP Cube

Jay

I have a problem ,with building an OLAP Cube from PS2007.

I have a three tiered SharePoint farm.

Server 1 : – Application Server x 64bit

Sever 2: – SQL 2008 sp1 x 64 bit Named instance.( SQL Database engine)

Server 3: – Default instance – Analysis server. SQL 2008 sp1

When I try to build a cube from the Application server I get an error :
Cannot connect to Analysis Server version 10.%$#@.%$.

My work around :

I have installed the following requirements:

1. SQL Native Client 10.0
2. SQL Managed Objects Collection 10.0
3. Backward compatibility v8.%%%% ( Latest version)

But I still receive the same error.

I have gone through every step on the Microsoft whitepapers , through all
Cristhoper Fiessinger`s blogs, no luck what so ever.

I am a bit lost here.

Jay:

Based on the error, I'd say that Ben is pointing you in the correct
direction. The other possible cause is incorrect service account
permissions.

Hi Guys.

Firstly thank you Gary and Ben.

Secondly. I have applied the updates in order as indicated in the blogs.
Still no luck.

The only solution currently is that we install , Analysis Services on the
Application server. This will emulate a single server installation.

Hi Jay,

Cannot connect... Is the browser service running?

Also, installing AS on the app server doesn't fully emulate a single server,
presumably your SQL is elsewhere. However, it does tend to work 1st time.
Do let us know how you get on
