Old Contact Lists

T

Thom Little

I have had a number of contact lists that have been deleted over time. The
current contact lists are intact and reflect the contacts appropriately.

If I draft a message and select the "To:..." button the Select Names dialog
opens . This dialog contains a "Show Names from the:" drop-down list that
lists my current contact lists and all the old contact lists. that were
deleted.

Selecting one of the old lists results in an error message.

How can I delete the bogus entries from this drop-down list leaving just the
current contact lists?

I am using Outlook 2003 SP 1 with all maintenance applies.

Remove the invalid references to Contacts Folders here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

T

Thom Little

That is exactly the information I needed.

In addition ... Outlook must be reloaded after the deletions are requested
for them to take affect.

Thank you.

Correct. Any change to the Outlook Address Book requires a restart of the
service.

I have three contact folders defined in the "Contacts" folder. I also have
contact entries in the "Contacts" folder.

The three Contact folders appear in the drop-down list but the entry for the
"Contacts" folder has mysteriously disappeared.

How can I add an entry for the "Contacts" folder to the drop-down list?

I'm not following your syntax here, but if you munged your Outlook Address
Book Service, just remove it, restart Outlook and re-add it. Any Contacts
Folders that you've enabled as email address books will be available to add
to the Outlook Address Book.

Thank you. That corrected it.

Of the 150+ application systems that I use, I only need my hand held with
one - Outlook. The parameter maze of Outlook continues to be a boggling
experience and the underlying relationships among options, and reserved
options, and hidden options is mammoth.

Thank you very much for helping me finally have my contact lists organized
the way I want.

It is rather convoluted, isn't it?
It was even worse with Outlook 98/2000 when it existed as two entirely
separate mail support modes and no one knew which they were using.

I of course use Word as my editor so that adds another facet also.

To say that the user interface to Outlook is a pathetic design is an insult
.... to pathetic designs.

I'm glad you're here to fill in the (many) gaps.
