Old Office 97 and Office will not install

Good Evening, I have used my laptop for years. I cannot upgrade to Office
2003 and need to reinstall Upgrade 97 and Upgrade 2000 on the laptop. A
barrage of malware and hijackers took over my computer through Inernet
Explorer (all updates were current, Norton installed and running and Search
and Destroy running) and nothing could get rid of it so I had to do a
reformat and fresh install of Windows 2000. Now I am asked for what I suppose
is Office 95 before I can install Office 97 and Office 2000. Any ideas? There
has to be some legal way to get me back in business without spending big
bucks when the problem was not caused by me. By the way...watch out for
VBlaster or Virtual Blaster..... nasty.

The problem was absolutely caused by you... you probably got the virus
from unsafe surfing, you decided to reformat, and you lost your Office
95 disks. If you no longer own a qualifying product for the Office
upgrade, then you no longer own a license to use the Office upgrade.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=158069 for a complete list of
qualifying products for the Office 97 upgrade, and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=210437 for a complete list of
qualifying products for the Office 2000 upgrade. Note that "any
version" or "or later" in the lists refer to versions that pre-date
Office 97 and Office 2000, respectively. Maybe you'll get lucky (ahem)
and still have one of these, or know someone who does that you can
borrow from.
