Older dates on a timeline

Any suggestions on how I can setup a timeline for dates prior to the 1900's?
I need to do a historical timeline dating back a couple of centuries.

Microsoft applications do not support dates prior to 1900. You might
consider putting rectangles over the timeline labels and entering your own
text.
