OLE Attachment in Outlook 2003

Jim

HI everyone,

Hope someone will be able to help me with this.

I am running in a mixed enviroment (Lotus Notes R.5.0.12 &
Exchange 2003). When i receive an email with a doc link
from the Notes enviroment to the Exchange enviroment, it
has been set up to convert the doc link to and OLE
attachment. The routing between the two (2) environments
works without a hitch, but the issue is when the email is
viewed with Outlook 2003 the OLE object is there but i am
undable to launch it as I normally would with any other
type of attachment. It has a properties menu, which tells
me teh attachment is a Notes link file, but the "Open
Linked NOtes LInk Object" option is greyed outo n the menu.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Or have any
suggestion?

Thanks in advance
Jim

Jim,

I believe you can get this to work by using the email attachment security
form. All the information you need to install/configure this form is on the
Office Resource Kit.
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/tools/BoxA10.htm

After you have the custom form published to your public folder I think the
only option you need to enable on the form is "allow in-place activation of
embedded OLE objects.

Please let me know if you have any problems getting the form published to
the public folder or if the above setting change does not work.

Thanks,

HI Greg,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am a little inexpereinced when it comes to the
Outlook/Exchange environment.

When you mean publish the form to teh public folder what
exactly do you mean?
How do i create a security form? and how do i actually
apply it to each users mailbox?

Sorry for the amaturish questions buti am currently on a
steep learning curve!

thanks again.

Greg,

Thanks for your help. I am a step closer to sorting it out.
Where i have gotten to is now the "Open Linked NOtes LInk
Object" is no longer greyed out. Which is great.
If i try and launch the OLE from the "Preview" window it
will not launch. I try double clicking on it and using
the "Open Linked NOtes LInk Object" menu option. Is this
normal behaviour? Also the registry key it tells me to add
in to the client does not exist as in tehre is not
Security Key in HKCU. Have you tried this in HKLM??

Thanks again.

Jim,

The registry key definitely needs to be added under HKCU. If the full path
(that's listed in the doc) does not already exist then you have to manually
create the key. If you need to get this key onto many machines then you can
push it out via GPO. The .adm templates for Office 2003 are also part of the
core tools download.

Hope this helps.
