OLE Linked Report in Access 2k Report

I have a report in Access 2000 that includes an OLE Link to a Word2000
report.

If I open Word then open the linked document in Word, make some changes and
run the Access report the changes are reflected on the Access report.

If I change the Word Document, save it and close it then run the Access
report the changes are not reflected on the Access report.

Question,

Does the Word Document have to always be open in this case for changes to be
reflected on the Access Document even though the Linked report is set to
update automatically??

Also, is there a way using Visual Basic to force Access to update the link
before the action to print the report is executed???
