OLE messages missing after SP2

After reinstalling WINXP and SP2, my Outlook Express
messages disappeard. Microsoft claims that the problem
is caused by my antivirus software (McAfee 4.5).

I see there are third party programs that claim to
restore dbx files. But do they just disappear again due
to the incompatability between OLE and McAfee? I don't
want to spend the money on the recovery software if
recovered messages wont stay recovered.

Also, are there any free (not free to try with no save
capability) OLE recovery utilities out there?
