OLK2003: Exchg and POP3 settings and retention of emails

T

Tom

Client Workstation:
Windows XP SP2 all MS updates
Outlook 2003 SP2 configured with:
Exchange Server 2003 SP2 (one email account) [Basic authentication and
using HTTP]
Mail.domainname.com (second email account) [POP3] [we are hosted by
Network Connections, fwiw, in this case]

Our Exchange Server had an issue recently and we elected to direct our
emails during this period of time into a mail.domainname.com POP3 account.
Before we go off 'blind', what happens when we merge the folders in Outlook?
That is, our Outlook Rules put some emails into various Outlook folders.
When offline in Outlook with the Exchange Server settings we can't see the
emails in the various folders. Now, with the POP3 settings we can see the
POP3 downloaded emails. So what will happen when we go BACK to the Exchange
Server and see the emails from the Exchange Server?
1) Will we see ONLY the Exchange server emails and hence losing all the POP3
downloaded emails into these folders?
2) Will we see BOTH the Exchange Server AND the POP3 emails? We would like
this option.
3) How will the POP3 emails resolve themselves INTO the Exchange Server or
can they? That is, can the POP3 emails be 'put/placed' into the Exchange
Server and if so, how?
TIA,
