The TP looks great, tough the most popular requests do not all seem to be
implemented. For example one still cannot set a global template. At least
not in the TP.

If you are taking part in the Technical Preview, pls be so kind as to
post in the respective newsgroup of "connectnews".
There is no use at all to post on the ON2010 issues in this group.

This said, you are right that handling templates has not been changed.
And AFAICS there will be no major changes.
This is not good at all.

Agreed, disappointing so far.

I know we need to wait until it ships but it's shaping up as a evolutionary
upgrade rather than revolutionary.

I really wonder about the value of feedback to Connect. Popular requests
seem to have been ignored to date.

"No major changes" was *not* meant in general, only for the template
issues.

There are many new things (apart from the "cloud" strategy) which are
really valuable.
I know we need to wait until it ships but it's shaping up as a
evolutionary upgrade rather than revolutionary.

I would not say so.
The features for teamwork and sharing notebooks may well ne see as great
innovation.
A lot of other things obviously have not been in the developers' agenda.
Among the missing things are especially the "graphics" issues (f.e.:
still no grouping). And most of the gaps covered by the PowerToys remain
as they were.
I really wonder about the value of feedback to Connect. Popular

Although I had really often sent people to Connect, I must say that this
channel obviously has been really dead for a long time.
It seems that hardly anything did find the way to the agenda {siiiigh}.

But you may see yourself as there will be a public Beta later this year.

That was understood in my previous post. Sorry if you took my words in a
broader context :)

OK, each person's needs are different. I haven't seen any killer features
for my use yet. Still evolutionary to me.

Let's wait until it ships :)

AFAICS there will hardly be any chance to have features added. The
version shown in the Technical Preview is complete and AFAIK only bug
elimination and minor revision will be done. What is show at preset is
pretty much what the final product will be.

Are you taking part in the Technical Preview? I did not see any postings
from you in the TP newsgroups.

No.

I've beta tested Macromedia and Adobe products in the past but no spare time
for TPs at present.

Rainald,

I've seen screenshots, videos, blogs and reviews both online and offline in
magazines.

This is subjective. I find it inefficient to post to another group, that
does not seem to be relevant to the topic I opened. This group seems much
more relevant than the connectnews; and indeed as the feedback at connect
seem largely ignored or the channel does not seem alive.

It is not much of a disappointment. Many things improved a lot and the
access to buttons are just easy and neat. So far I am quite happy with the
new version. But yes, nothing is perfect: some issues remain, which I
thought could have been easy to implement.

No offence intended.
But as Chairman Mao had put it:

IMO *this* group is not relevant for the ongoing development.
What effect should your posting have?
What was your intention other than whining?
This group seems much more relevant than the connectnews;

Not at all. To reach the developers "connectnews" is the proper place.
The developers listen and they are most responsive. Daniel Escapa, the
head of the team replies on each and any suggestion and complaint.

That's a totally different issue.
You must not mix the old "public" system "Connect" with the TP
newsgroups in "connectnews".
IMO it's really bad that the Connect channel for suggestions and
reporting bugs has been dead for a long time. But we can't help

Where could we access this "connectnews"-group?

(I am supposed to manage the migration of part of our organization to ON, I
am writing thenecessary documentation now, but it would be very helpful to
know what will be going on in ON 2010)

It's a "closed shop" NG. One only has access if one takes part in the
"Technical Preview". People have been "invited" to take part in the test
based on an application. The possibility to apply gas ended months ago.

As sad as it is, you just come too late. But there will be a public
Beta-test later this year.

This group is not relevant for the ongoing development? Who says so? No
really, I am not aware of any group user guide which states that what I
brought up is not relevant. Unless you evidence a written document, what you
are suggestion has no meaning and credence whatsoever. If however it is
written, then I will be wrong to the end.

I expressed just that how ON14 looks like. This is the ON group and I don’t
see ANY REASON why my message is irrelevant.
That's a totally different issue.

By the way still for the relevance:: Lets count how many people would know
about ON at connectnews and at this group. I think the latter. And this
provides evidence for relevance.

I am looking forward to the written document indicating the relevance
criteria. Nothing personal of course.

We are both ON fans anyway.

Too bad this time around. I'll keep my eyes open to find out to get enrolled
in the public beta. Thanks so much for the info!!

De nada.
I'm sure that the availability if the public will be announced in here
(as was the possibility to apply for the Technology Preview).
