On a blank document, a dot shows up between words not a space.

I'm new to tool bars and I've clicked onto something in office documents that
shows a dot instead of a blank space every time I press the space bar to put
a space between words. Help!!!!!

You're seeing formatting marks, also known as nonprinting characters. Press
Ctrl+Shift+8 to toggle them off or click the Show/Hide button (¶).
