ON from PC to Mobile, reference?

H

Heidi H

I am having problems getting any information from my notebook on my PC to my
mobile. I have been looking around Microsoft's site and I can't seem to find
much, I'm guessing since it is in Trial. I've tried doing searches in the
group but anything I find is old news. I don't want to have to ask questions
that would seem so trivial to most but I really would like to figure this
out. If you can direct me to any information I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again & Happy New Year :)

Don't afraid of asking here.
There are no dumb question but those unasked!

Assuming that the trial is ON 2007: The problems you have mit OM
Mobile have nothing to do with the trial status. ON 2007 trial is
fully functional.

Let's first check the environment:
Which kind of mobile device are you use?
Which OS does it run with?
ON Mobile only supports WM 5.

The device is iPAQ 1950,
OS 5.1.1702 (Build 14367.1.0.2)
WM 5.0

Thank you!

And what OS on the PC as well, so we now if you are dealing with ActiveSync
or Windows Mobile Device Center.

What version of OneNote and WM? What steps are you taking to try to get
the data back and forth? Where in that process do things seem not to
work? Are there any error messages?

Blame it on all the drugs they have me on but I now see that it is sync'ing
with the PPC. How do I get the notebook/pages to go over to the PPC?

OK fine.
In addition:
Which OS on the PC and which version of ActiveSync?

LOL

How do I get the notebook/pages to go over to the PPC?

Only *one* section is synched with the mobile device.
So you have to put everything to be available on the PDA into the
Notebook "OneNote Mobile" and its (one and only) section with the name
"notes from <mobile device>"

Rainald
P.S. Pls excuse me for asking again on the OS and AS version.
Had not seen this branch of the thread when first replying.

Heidi H shared these words of wisdom:
Ok, I'm not sure on what a section is, I'll go back and read some
more.

Sections are the main division of a notebook.
It's the "tabbed pages" with coloured tabs appearing horizontally on
top (below the toolbar); pls see the handbook (First steps with
OneNote, 1. OneNote Basics).
Sections are one level above in the hierarchy of notebooks.

Added (although not relevant for the topic discussed here):
One can in addition create a level above the section, so-called
"section groups".
I have copied, I think, the whole notebook (All
Patterns.one) into the One Note mobile folder.

Oh, I see.
It will not work this way.

ON Mobile does not have any further division level above the pages.
And therefore it only synchs just the *one* section named after the
device, f.e.:
- the PDAs name is "PocketPC", on installing ON Mobile a section
"Notes from PocketPC" will be created in the notebook "OneNote
Mobile";
- the PDA is named "iPAQ, the section will be named "Notes from iPAQ".

Only pages in this section will be synched between the PC and the PDA.

So you have to put all the pages you want to have available while on
the road in this very section.

Hope it's a bit more clear now.

There should be a new Notebook on the left side of the screen called
"OneNote Mobile" and it should contain a new section called "Notes from
{name of your WM Device}".

It is in that section where you should copy any content you want synced
with ONM on the WM device.

Also, take some time to read the initial OneNote documentation which is
included as a default Notebook. It's well written and goes a long way
towards explaining what OneNote "is" and what some of the terminology is.

Almost - the section to be sync'ed to the device and which would be
editable in ONM is already created for you. (Look for the "OneNote
Mobile" notebook on the left side of the screen).

You cannot sync the entire contents of your ON2007 setup to the mobile
device. With the layout you describe, you would have to choose which
pages (containing particular patterns, etc.) are to be copied to the
single "Notes from {WM Device name}" section in the OneNote Mobile
Notebook to be synced to ONM.

Heidi H shared these words of wisdom:
I would have sections across the top called, Dresses, Tops, Pants,
Shorts, etc

I could put the pattern information on pages under that certain
section. Pattern #123, pattern 456, etc.

This is how I would set it up on my PC. Once I have this
information created I will worry about getting it to my PPC.

Do I have it?

Yes, the *explanation* is OK.
You got what a section is.
But it will not work this way to get things over to the PPC.

As said yesterday only *one* section will be synched with the PPC (you
may setp back to my posting of yesterday).

And as said: only a special section in a special notebook will be
used:
The Notebook is "OneNote Mobile" and the section is "Notes from
<device-name>"

You have to move or to copy the pages with the patterns into this
section.
They will not touched by synching otherwise.

More clear now?
