Hamachi ( http://www.hamachi.cc ) is incredible software that allows
users to setup a VPN of their own. Truly amazing stuff. Zero Admin,
robust, free.

OneNote 2007 synchs well over a Hamachi VPN ! This is great news.

Scenario:
You are a small business person, you have some notes in some OneNote
files at work on a certain computer. You want access to those notes
from time to time from home.

Solution: setup Hamachi on your work computer and your home computer.
And the notes will synch :)

Nice.

Nice.

Microsoft bought Foldershare sometime last year -- it does the same
thing, and can sync multiple computers. Search this group's archives
for it -- we've discussed a bunch of sync tools and such.

Hello ricochet,

I use foldershare daily and I absolutely love it. Great program.
However, it's use for OneNote synchronization is very limited. I
think it might be possible to synch OneNote .one files via Foldershare
but it's not ideal.

As discussed previously, Foldershare has file-level synchronization
and it would essentially delete the file that needs updating, and add
the new one. This entirely bypasses OneNote's unique internal file
synchronization which synchs changes only. "THUS FAR", I have found
that OneNote 2007's synching is reliable with my "mostly text and a
few pictures" synching.

The Hamachi method is much more robust than the foldershare idea and
it also allows OneNote to work as it was designed.

Although problems with the Foldershare method have not been found, I
would think it would easily start to fail if two different people were
able to access the same .one files simultaneously.

Anyone tried the Hamachi Method for Synching Notebooks. I synch
OneNote Notebooks over 5 network computers at work (4 desktops, 1
tablet) and 2 at home. So far no slip ups.

:)
