OneNote omits info on using a computer pen in lieu of mouse

How would I temporarily switch from a conventional mouse to a computer pen to
input handwritten notes into OneNote? It would be important to be able to
swtich instantly between these 2 input modes, to make using OneNote useful on
the fly. Also, what computer pens would work with OneNote?

I have a regular PC (not a tablet PC). Thank you.

From the way i've used onenote, and other wacom tablets (other than my
tablet pc), it should work instantly... but you will not get handwriting,
just drawing. You can only get handwritten notes from a Tablet PC... sorry!
Oh and thats real simple, on a tablet pc, if you want hand written notes on
the fly, you just touch the pen to the screen, and boom, you're writing.

James, thanks. Just to be clear, what is the difference between "drawing"
which I assume includes the ability to write notes, and "handwritten notes"?
Is it that the "handwritten notes" that I can get only with a Tablet PC are
able to be OCR'd into digital text but I can't get the same OCR feature with
a non-Tablet PC input like a Wacom tablet?

Also, for the Wacom tablet, if it use that for drawing, do I need to toggle
a switch between the Wacom pen and my conventional mouse to choose which
input device is working at any moment in time, or do both work at all times
without having to switch between one of the other?

I'm a real newbie and trying to figure out whether the trial version I have
of OneNotes should lead to a full version and getting the Wacom tablet.

Thanks a million!

Handwriting (digital Ink) on a Tablet PC is the only way to generate
searchable, editable Ink. The other inputs are seen as a picture, and you
cannot do OCR on them or search or correct individual words, or convert to
text like you can using the Tablet PC.

Chris, thanks. That answers the first part of my question. Before I would
commit to the full version, I'd need to know how easily I could enter notes
into OneNote using either a writing tablet (like one of Wacom's) or a mouse.
Specifically, do I have to do something to turn off my mouse when I use the
writing tablet, or are both the writing tablet and mouse always active at all
times so I could input into OneNote from either input device without any
initial steps to "turn on" the one I want to use and "turn off" the one I
don't want to use.

I hope this is clear.

Thanks.

I have a wacom tablet, (other than my tablet pc) and the tablet works just
like a mouse, although with pressure sensitivity.. as soon as you touch or
hover the pen to the wacom tablet the driver makes it work like a mouse.
There is no switching between regular mouse and tablet. or at least no
physical switch... (but the graphire also comes with a wireless mouse that
only works on the tablet) so no extra mouse is needed.
the only thing that you need to do with onenote is the click of the button
to turn on the drawing.
thats all.
