OneNote shuts down when I open the Options dialog

I just installed the trial version of OneNote 2007 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine with lots of ram and hard disk space.

Every time I open the options dialog (Tools | Options) OneNote shuts down within 10-15 seconds. Every Time, no exceptions.

I ran the Office Diagnostics and it fixed one installation problem. However, the shut down problem was NOT fixed.

My questions are:

1. Does anyone have a solution for this particular problem?

2. If I uninstall and reinstall the trial version will I be able to reactivate it?

Thanks,
Tom Barich

Ran diagnostics again, but it found nothing the second time.

As for messages, there are none, either onscreen or in the event viewer. I checked the Application log and Microsoft Office Sessions, but I don't see anything. OneNote disappears in a flash, leaving no trace behind.

Since I installed the office 2007 trial a few days ago, I've noticed a significant increase in random crashes of my regular apps. I suspect the whole installation is buggered.

I ghosted my machine before installing the trial so getting things back to normal is not a big deal. However, I wonder if I'll be able to reactivate the office trial if I reinstall it after restoring my drive. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Tom Barich

You might try one more pass with Office Diagnostics but...are there any
useful error messages in your event viewer when the shutdown occurs

I reghosted, installed new WinXP updates, made sure my antivirus was disabled, and reinstalled OneNote 2007.
I was able to reactivate, with the same expiration date I received initially. I guess activation takes the place of the old registry entry that made sure you didn't go beyond your 30 or 60 days.
Unfortunately, the shutdown problem must be related to my particular machine. It has reappeared in the new installation. Running diagnostics found one install error and fixed it (just like the last time), but that had nothing to do with the shutdown problem.
At least I can configure options, I just have to be prepared to restart OneNote after each change I make.
