open a new browser when I click on hyperlinks in other application

When I click on a hyperlink inside an Office application's Help window,
windows uses the most recently opened instance of Internet Explorer to go to
that URL. This has caused me to loose important time consuming data. I was
filling out important forms online via I.E. I was also concurrently working
in Powerpoint on a different project. While in PowerPoint, I clicked on a
hyperlink from the help window. Windows used my most recently opened window
of IE, that being the one I was using to fill in an online form. The form
data was lost as that IE window loaded the Office help URL. I clicked "back"
on that browser window, and the form was empty. Now I have to spend over an
hour re-entering that form data.

Windows should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS open a NEW Internet Explorer window (or
at least always ask) when a hyperlink from a DIFFERENT application is clicked.

If I click on a hyperlink while web-browsing, I expect to see that URL
opened in the same window, unless I specifically use the "open in new window"
feature. HOWEVER, when I click on a hyperlink in some non-web-browser
application, I expect a NEW I.E. window to open up and go to that URL.

For example... now that I have typed this fairly long message, if I were to
go to Powerpoint and click on hyperlink, that URL would be opened in THIS
window, and I'd loose everything I just typed.

PLEASE fix this. I makes no sense whatsoever.

Hi Kieran,

You may want to check your settings in Internet Explorer (Tools=>Internet Options=>Advanced on reusing Windows.
You may also want to try holding the shift key when clicking
on a link. Some folks prefer having only one instance/window open.
