open dialog box in Office 2003

When I go to open a file with the open dialog box in any of the Office 2003
products, if I navigate to a different location than the default, there's a
lengthy lag time. This doesn't happen in any other software, nor does it
happen in Windows explorer. It just started since I moved from Office 2000
to 2003. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.
