Open Document

I have used Office prof. 95, 97,2000, and 2003 and have always liked the idea
of the New Office .... button where you could choose to open new Word, Excel
etc documents as well as templates and all the rest.
Why has it been removed from 2007 ?
Why do I have to open a Word document and then open a new template meaning I
have a minimized open document while I am working on the template.
Surely this is a mistake on Microsoft's side.

Is there a way around this problem?

Hi Liakos,

In both Office 2003 and Office 2007 the old style New Office Document dialog is available but is an optional installation feature
from the Microsoft Office Choice in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control panel.

The New Document panel in the Office 2007 ribboned apps is resizable (look for the 6 dot drag handle in the lower right hand
corner). The open documents generally do not minimize and folks wanted quicker access to more templates and bigger preview pictures
than the thumbnails in the older dialogs.

As another method you can add the old style app specific template dialog to the Quick Access Toolbar (in Word for example) a link to
the old style dialog by right click on the QAT, choosing Customize; select the 'All Commands' category, then scroll down to the
'New Document or Template' choice and add it to the QAT.
