open file dialog is never alphabetized

When I use the open file dialog box in any office xp program, the list of
files is by date, never by name. After I resort by name, all xp programs save
that preference until the computer is shut down/restarted, then it reverts to
sort by date. Very irritating. Any suggestions?

Open any folder and arrange the way you want. Then open Windows Explorer -
from that folder->Tools->Folder Option->View options. Click on the option
to show all folders using this view.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't help. Windows explorer folders
always appear exactly as I want them; it is the open file dialog box in
office xp applications that won't retain the alphabetize preference. Any
other suggestions?

I also have the same problem. Office xp will retain the view for each folder
but changes the arrange depending on your last arrange. It use to save both
the view and arrange. I would like to get this feature back.
