Open main and sub form blank

Hello

I have a main form and a subform
On the main form is a combo box that takes me to a specific record.
The subform is linked to the main form by the ID selected (the bound column)
in the combo.

I want to have the main form and the subform open with no records showing
until I select a record in the combo on the main form.

The combo now opens blank (default is set to "") but the subform opens with
records showing ??

How can I can have the subform empty until I select something in the main
form combo.
