Open/Save Dialogue hangs

Hello

We are using Microsoft Visio 2002 (10.0.525) on Windows
XP SP1 (same problem with XP SP2). The program itself
works just fine, but there is some major error when using
the Open/save dialogue. It works a short while, then
suddenly, the window of all folders and files, hangs, 50%
of the icons disapears and it stops responding. All other
buttons are still active in the dialog. I can "Cancel"
and open a new dialog, and now that will work again - a
while. Until it too crashes/hangs in the same manner.

When browsing locally on the systemdrive, the problem
does not occur, but when browsing a mapped DFS-share. I
have no problem using Explorer browsing the same
resource, only in the Open/save-dialogue of Visio.

Repair or reinstallation - doesn't work.
Newly formatted computer + new install - doesn't work.
Tested on more then one client - still doesn't work.

Running out of ideas here. What can I do?

Best regards Magnus

I would suggest downloading Service Pack 2 for Visio 2002 and see if that
eliminates the crash.

Hi Mark - Thanks for your reply.

Indeed, it seems that my problems stopped after
installation of SP2.

Though I'm sorry to say that another trouble showed
itself instead. Seems like a minor one though.

I upgraded my administrative install of Visio. (created
with "msiexec /a <CD>\Visio.msi") - Using this syntax:

msiexec /a c:\VisioStandard2002\Visio.msi /p C:\kb830242
\Visio2002-KB830242-FullFile-SVE.MSP

Installation runs through - so far so good. When I now
install a client from this installation. I get a prompt
at the start of Visio, that I need to activate my product
(The program has noticed some major changes to the
system - Put in the original CD etc.). I choose next,
since I know I have the original files in my
Administrative install. It finsishes without any more
trouble. And I can work as usual.

But then, when I close and then reopen Visio, I get the
same prompt once again?! Have the SP2 owerwritten some
important licensing-files in my administrative install?

Best regards Magnus.

I'm not aware of any such issues, but I am not really familiar with the
installation or licensing part of the product.

Hi again

I understand that you don't have all the answers for me.
But I dunno where else to turn with my questions.

An update to this current issue. It seems like the
activation part doesn't go thru correctly. I'm using a
corp. license key. When applying the full-file-patch
directly on a unpathced client it works like a charm, but
when I upgrade my administrative install, and then
reinstall the product, it doesn't.

And in my last post I stated: "It finsishes without any
more trouble. And I can work as usual." - This is wrong,
the product never get's activated. And I can't work as
usual. (Running in locked down mode)

In anyway, where can I turn to get help on this
installation-issue? Is my local Microsoft support desk my
best bet?

Regards Magnus
