open/save file

When I'm sent a file that I want to open, I'll get the message do you want to
open or save this document. When I say open, it gives me a blank screen.
What am I doing wrong?

Probably because there is nothing in there or you are not seeing it. What happens if you save it and then try to open it?

No. It just sorta blinks for a moment, then does nothing.
