open secured 97 mdb in 2k

i'm working on a customer's box with access 2k sr1

i attempt to open a secured .mdb that was created in access 97

i get message

"the current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable this
database ...... <lengthy list of permissions that must be granted in
system.mdw to the current user> ..."

and the mdb is not opened.

if i don't want to convert, and just want read-only on this mdb...isn't
there a way to open this mdb?

You need to join the workgroup that the mdb was secured with, and log in as
a member of the admins group.

You can use the 97 version mdw file. The best way is to create a desktop
shortcut that points to the correct mdw file.

The target would look like
"path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to mdw"
