Open XML Converter 1.1.4 for Mac failures

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel (This topic was not resolved in the similarly named "Open XML Converter 1.1.3 for Mac failures".)

I also am having similar problems with opening certain docx files in Word 2004 (Version 11.5.6) and Open XML Converter (Version 1.1.4). I'll refer only to the symptoms of Open XML Converter, but I'm happy to report on Word 2004 on request.

Certain docx files will not convert to RTF (the resulting RTF file is zero size). Open XML Converter reports "Errors occurred. Click Conversion Log for details. Conversion Log reports:
==================================
Start time: 2010-05-06 12:19:11 -0400
Converting file: /Users/jzsimon/Downloads/Final_MN_Writeup.docx
objc[78645]: Class NLAssertionHandler is implemented in both /Applications/Open XML Converter.app/Contents/SharedSupport/wordcvtr and /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office Converter Support/Open XML for Word.framework/Versions/12/../../../MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework/Versions/12/MicrosoftComponentPlugin. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
Conversion failed
End time: 2010-05-06 12:19:13 -0400
==================================

I have reason to believe that the files are not corrupted since they open fine in TextEdit and Pages (though, as usual, certain formatting details are lost in the conversion process).

Other docx files convert without issues, so perhaps it's a certain kind of object in the file that triggers the failure.

Other specifics: MacBookPro5,1; 4GB RAM; Mac OS X 10.6.3; Software Update reports no updates available; Disk Utility Repair Permissions Performed.

Ideas and suggestions?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Sorry, no ideas or suggestions.

There are some XML files that simply won't convert. RTF cannot describe
some artefacts that are valid in an XML file. And Office 2004 cannot edit
or display some of them.

The bottom line is that you will find a few files that simply won't convert.

Sorry.
