Opening and Saving file in Office 2003

Dear all,
Greeting! We have just deployed Office 2003 Std to our users. Some of
the users have complaint that after the office 2003 upgrade, they experience
slowness(very slow) opening and saving file or even inserting attachment
file.
After troubleshooting we found that when doing the opening, saving and
inserting attachment, it seems like the office will try to read through all
the drive in the PC. It includes network drive. The affected users normally
have more than one network drive.
I wish to know if it is true about the above guess. If it is true, may
I know what is the work around to prevent Office read share folder on
network\internet?
