Opening Document with Word 2000

When i opern Word, the page shows the paragraph mark at the top of the page.
If I look at print preview, the document show paragraph mark where it should
be. If I click on View, Headers and Footers, and close, the paragraph mark
appears in right place.

How do I correct this.

In Word 2002 and 2003, click on Tools | Options | View | check the
"White space between pages" box | OK.
