Opening Existing Powerpoint goes strait to slideshow?!

Hi when I open an existing powerpoint that I created it automatically goes to the slideshow view like I'm going to present it. But I just want to edit it, so if I click in the bottom corner, end show, it closes the whole presentation, and I have to go under file-open-"ppt. 1" or whatever. It's a real pain, I don't want it to open it as if I'm going to present it, I want it to start it up and normal view. Also why when I hit end show does it not go normal view but close the whole presentation. After I open it the long way it works fine, if I end the show, it goes back to normal mode, but for some reason when I do it the other way it messes up.
Thanks,
Brendan

The file has not been saved as a Powerpoint Presentation (.ppt or .pptx)
file - it's been saved as a PowerPoint Show (.pps or .ppsx). It's behaving
as it should based on the file format. When you next open it use File> Save
As to create another copy in the proper format.
