Opening files protected by DRM

The company I work for has decided to release all their pwoerpoint files in a protected format. On a PC these files can be opened by clicking on the 'read/only' button. On the Mac there is no such choice but merely a box that informs me that 'This presentation is protected by a password or Digital Righs Management (DRM). To access the presentation, you must have a version that is not protected by a password or DRM.

I was really surprised that you can bypass this on the PC but not on the Mac.
