What version Windows do you have? Your font folder may need repair. If you have
Windows XP download TweakUI from this site and repair the font folder.

You could do an installer cleanup too since you tried to install 2002.
Use the Cleanup Utility as described in this article Description of the Windows

No. I'm running AVG, as I have for the last three
years.
I've never run across this kind of problem before. I
just
tried installing Publisher 2002. It doesn't tell me
anything about the font, just that it encountered an
error
and it shuts down.

I'm about fed up with Microsoft. It's been over a
week
that I've had to deal with email assistance. Why
don't
they stand behind their product?

I started the computer in safe mode. I'm operating
in
Windows XP Professional. I went to open Publisher
and
got
an error message: "Windows is low on memorry, or
your
hard
disk is full. Try closing other programs and
freeing
some
space on your hard disk before starting
Publisher." I
can't even open Publisher in safe mode. This is
absolutely
crazy. I've got 60 GB free space on my hard drive.
Can't
be that. I hit control, alt, delete and there's
nothing
listed in the files running in safe mode. What
goes?!?

send an error report to Microsoft, insuring me

information sent will be confidential and
anonymous. I
choose "Send Error Report" and Publisher closes.

determine
which updates you need. (Sorry but I am not
certain
if it works for the 2000 version)

Anyway, you can still click the "Downloads for
Office 2000" option and find the available
updates.

message that the old version gave. It just says that it's
run into a problem and needs to shut down.

I'm operating under Windows XP. I downloaded and ran both
TweakUI and the Cleamup Utility. The program still gives
me the error message and I am unable to open the files.
This is frustrating.

Do you think I should reinstall windows?

Clicking here will normally give you more relevant information.

If the error relates to fonts, you have a corrupted font(s)... Try to determine what
font(s) is/are causing the problem and remove it/them from the font folder.

Update your virus software, it could be interfering. It isn't always Norton that
causes problems
