Opening Mac Files in MS-Word

Someone sent me a bunch of files they wrote on a Mac computer and my Word
program can't open them. How can I open these files? Is there a converter
available for free? Thanks!

What version of Word did they have? Are you sure they created the files
with Word? What version do you have? There's no inherent incompatibility
between Windows Word files and Mac Word files.
