Opening new Internet Explorer window

When I have an Internet Explorer window open...say to my email, and I want to
open another Internet Explorer windo to go someplace else, it opens the new
window, then immediately goes to the previous IE window that was open. I
have to click twice in order to get back to the new IE window. How can I set
it so that it just stays on the new IE window when it opens?
