does anyone know how I can open or convert a newer
presentation to an older version (7.0 for windows 95) of
powerpoint?

When you save your presentation, scroll through the "Files of Type" list and
you'll find one that says, "PowerPoint 97-2002 & 95 Presentation (*.ppt).
That will save it in PowerPoint 95 format. Don't be alarmed if the file
size increases dramatically. PowerPoint 95 did not compress presentations,
so your presentation will be saved uncompressed.

Also, adding to what Sonia suggested. You will also loose and
transitional/special effects that were not available in the 95 package.
