Opening Word 2002 affecting desktop display

When I open Word 2002, it is almost as if the monitor
shuts down for 3-4 seconds, then turns back on again only
to have the desktop icons appear "highlighted" and the
colors on the bar at the bottom (Start button, etc.)
are "smeared", for lack of a better term. Word 2002 seems
to operate just fine. It is the effect Word is having on
my desktop that is troublesome.

HI,

Like You have come to the same conclusion, that there is nothing wrong
with Word. I would request you to update your video card drivers. If the
system that you are using is an OEM, you should contact your OEM.
