Opening Word Doc from IE Web link?

Hello.

This might be a sharepoint issue, but it seems like an Office or IE
related issue.

We have a sharepoint 2003 site. A page has a simple " New Doc" link.
For everybody else in the office, the link works great opening up a
new word doc.. But for me (xp sp2 IE 7.0 Office 2003), the link
results in an IE error:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.

I can't make sense of the jibberish error detail and data it wants to
then
send to microsoft.
