opening word doc problem

[BKP]

office pro 07- when I open any word doc (or just word itself) it minimizes to
the upper left corner of the screen, and disappears? It shows at the bottom
it is open but will not expand so that I can see/change it.
Restore/max/min/close nothing seems to work? I have rebooted, even
uninstalled and re-installed office? I am lost- any ideas for a tech stupid
expat lost in Europe with no easy way to get help from an english speaking
tech guru????

Well, I was hoping for that because the usual answer to this question is
that the "Normal" (restored) window is opening offscreen, but a Maximized
window will be visible; if you can't see the window even when you Maximize,
then I thought perhaps it was on another monitor.

oh also- I noticed that excell opens fine as well as every other appl. just

There may well be, but, since I have no experience with dual monitors, I'm
afraid I can't help much. I guess you could look at Windows Control Panel |
Display | Settings, which seems to indicate two monitors. If I click on #2,
I'm told it's "not active."

Are you sure the window doesn't appear if you right-click on the Taskbar
button and choose Maximize?

Try opening 2 documents, right-click in the Taskbar and choose one of the
Stack options. Then close one of the documents and move the other document
into its correct position and then Maximise it.

That's the standard response for a Normal window that's offscreen, but if
even the Maximized window is not visible, that sounds like a different
problem.

But if you open 2 maximised document windows, even if both are off screen,
when you select one of the Stack or Cascade options, it will bring them back
onto the screen.

My point is that I don't see how a Maximized window could be opening
offscreen except in a dual-monitor situation.

I understand that but be assured that I know this happens because it
happened to me recently. I was quite baffled at first because I don't recall
ever experiencing this problem with any previous version of Word but I
quickly realised what was happening and the standard solution worked.
