Opening Word from a link?

Not sure wether this is the right place, but please tell me where to post

I have an internet app where I have links to a word document, when clicking
the link word opens in internet explorer and not in word it self, can I
change this and how?

I have tried via vba to run througt the document and make bookmarks, so my
link had the bookmark in, that worked, except my vba often did not get the
bookmarks generated so the link is no good. Now I want to change what I am
doing, so instead of generating bookmarks I have a hidden line with a number
I know, so when I click the link in my internet explorer I want to send the
number over to word and run a find macro, can this be done and if so, how do
I go about doing it?
