Opening Word opens 3 blank documents.

When I open Word it will open three blank documents. When I try to close
those documents it opens one for each one I close.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled office with no luck.

Nevermind, I was able to fix this.

We had just moved the machine to a domain and when we switched profiles it
didn't have permissions to the old profiles word startup folder.

After giving it permissions to that folder it was fine.

I don't fully understand. If what you say is true, you cannot close Word
because it keeps opening a new blank document for every one that you close?

It sounds like it is almost certainly a crap third party add-in. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm which should help
you find the culprit.
