Opening WordPerfect doc in Word

I do most of my typing in WordPerfect, but often need to save a WPDocs file
in Word in order to send it to someone else. Today WordPerfect docs would
not open in Word. I rebooted, but it still wouldn't open. When I click on
WPDocs, the hourglass appears then quickly disappears, and nothing happens.
If I try again, or try to close that window, I get a "Not Responding"
message, and End Now, and Word closes. Never had this happen before. Any
suggestions?

Thanks. Hmmmm, sounds like that might be it. I do recall some updates
installing themselves just a couple of days ago. The URL you sent says to
go into Regedit. I'm always leery of doing that - is it safe to change
something like that? . . . . I've taken a look and gone as far as the word
"Cached" where it says to Right-click, point to New, click DWORD Value", and
then enter (a long number) I see that there are two sets of
numbers/letters inside brackets, it looks like a space between the
brackets - is that correct? And then one more group of numbers after the
second bracketed group. I don't want to do anything until/unless I'm sure
I'm doing it right.

Thanks, Alan. So that which you are sending should accomplish the same
thing? Not sure exactly what you mean by "extract the .reg file to a
folder" ?

This problem seems more complicated than just an Update. AFAIK,
I am completely up-to-date with Office and Windows XP. The post
worried me a little since I do, once in a while, have to look at
some old Word Perfect documents from pre-2000 on a floppy. The
one I tried opened without difficulty. I do have Word98 even if
it is on my Window98 (or whatever the damn system is called)
partition so all would not be lost.

I just tried typing an address into Internet Explorer and as that Microsoft
URL said, one thing that can happen with this problem is that it has no
effect.
