Opening Workbooks which contain links

When I open a workbook which contans links to other workbooks, I alway
get a screen asking whether I want to update the linked information.
Is there a way to avoid getting this screen

I think as long as the workbook contains links to another workbook, the
you can't avoid that message(question).

If you don't need the links anymore you can delete them by going t
Edit/Links - but beware - this will delete any data you have in you
existing workbook that was populated as a result of the link. You wil
need to Copy/Paste Special/Values before you delete the links.

If you still need the links for data, but don't need to update th
data, simply select NO when the message pops up

Thanks for your response Max.

That's what I was afraid of. I do need the links to remain active, s
I guess I'll have to live with the message

What Version of Excel are you using?
My 2002 (XP) has within the Menu, Edit, Links.. Dialog box a Special Button
"Startup Prompt..."
Where you can specify "Dont' display the alert and don't update the
autolinks.."

As far back as XL5.0, there was an option to disable this "UpdateLink"
message!

<Tools> <Options> <Edit > tab,
*Uncheck* "Ask To Update Automatic Links".

Thanks Rags -

I recently had to wipe my hard drive and reload everything because o
virus problems. I didn't remember that I used to get that message, bu
I couldn't find a way to disable it. I went through options severa
times, but just didn't see that particular line. Must be getting old.
Thanks again

You can download an add-in from Bill Manville called 'FindLinks", which many
of the folks around here use and recommend.
