operation failed

I have a fairly new PC with windows XP Home installed. I
installed Office XP. Everything works fine, except
Outlook. When I try to send (or receive) mail, I get a
message "operation failed". I've been over the settings
twice with my ISP, and they should be OK, but I can't
send mail. I can do email fine thru Outlook Express, so I
know it's not my ISP. I thought about uninstalling and re-
installing Outlook, but in "add/remove" programs, the
only option I seem to get is to Install or repair. Repair
does nothing helpful. If I go to "remove", it wants to
remove all of Office (I think). Any ideas why I can't
send or receive mail?
