Opinion Needed Regarding XPpro and FP2002

I am a newbie and have just acquired a domain and a
webserver. I am going to be doing my first webpage and
website. I am currently running Windows XP Professional
and have an unused and unactivated copy of Frontpage 2002.
I do not expect to be doing any miraculous things with the
website. Just learning how to do it and basic stuff.
I am wondering if I will save myself any grief by
upgrading to Frontpage 2003. Will what I have, get the job
done, with minimal problems or do I need to upgrade before
I start? Figured I better ask before I start.

Hi John,

Using FP 2002 will certainly allow you to do web site creation. You wouldn't
need FP 2003 to do that. However if cost is not an issue for you..you could
buy the upgrade version of FP 2003..and learn on that. The interface is
somewhat different than 2002..and there are quite a few new features. I
guess if it were me..and given the choice..I would start right out with FP
2003..however like I said it isn't really necessary for what you proposed
that you want to do.

Sooner or later you *will* upgrade. So why not avoid the
transition and start out with the latest version?

Plus, FP2003 is a *really* significant upgrade over
FP2002.

Hi Jon,

Unless you're on a very tight budget I'd suggest upgrading to FP2003 - it's
the best upgrade since FP98 -> FP2000 and the new features really will make
your job a lot easier.

Not to say that 2002 won't be able to do what you need - it certainly will -
but 2003 will do it a lot better. Certainly enough to justify the upgrade
cost.

The newest and better is always the way to go. HOWEVER
if you're just learning, go with what you have and upgrade if you see an advantage
to using the newer version. Who knows, by the time you really get into 2002, there may be a 2005. IF $ is not a problem then upgrade now and start from there.
