And what "Option" key might that be, and in what version of Office?
Just remember, no one here is clairvoyant and neither can anyone see your
computer...

In Microsoft instructions such as "WD98: How to Supress Blank Spaces in a
Mail Merge" it says"...press and hold the OPTION key and then press the F9
key to toggle the field codes on and off..."

So why didn't you post this in the FIRST place?

Since Word 98 is ancient, it may have been a key on a keyboard that no
longer exists.

Are you using that version?

The Option Key is on a Mac keyboard. There was no Office 98 for the PC, only for
the Mac.

I am using Word and Excel 2003 and 2007. I don't recall the usual MS
keyboards since the early 1980's ever having an OPTION key. I Binged it and
one source said try the ALT key but that didn't change any fields syntax.
Thanks

what/where is the "option key"?

If you have a Mac, it's in the lower left corner of the keyboard.

If you have a PC, you don't have an Option key, but try Alt instead.

As Mary mentions, that's a Mac version so you will have to try to find
directions for Windows-based Word 2003/2007.
