Option to change the view of File open window

It is not uncommon for people these days to have hundreds of Office files -
power point, Word and Excel that we need to look up on a daily basis.
When I open a file inside any of these applicaitons with File open, the
Window that opens up always has the 'preview' view. I am always looking for
the 'details' view and sort them by date to find the files. This requires
clicking on the 'views' button at the top to select the 'details' view. This
is the most annoying and time-wasting step. There should be a way to change
that view to default to whatever the user wants. There is no way to do that
today.

Of course there is. Pick File, Open, change View to Details, hold down
Ctrl button, left click on the "X" to close the File Open dialog. The
default is now Details.
