OrderBy property of MSAccess2K tables

My group just upgraded from 97 to 2K and now I cannot use
the Val, Datevalue, Timevalue, etc. functions in the
OrderBy property of my tables or queries. What am I
missing? It was suggested on this list that I should
include a reference to the Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object
Library, but I have that referenced already. I now
urgently need to figure this out. All help is appreciated.

Is there any reference marked MISSING? If so it will mess up all the
function libraries and their references. If there is, uncheck it,
recheck it, close and open Access. Or, if it's some add-in which
doesn't in fact exist, just uncheck it (you will of course lose its
functionality). If none is marked MISSING, check any unchecked
reference; close and open Access; uncheck the one you checked; close
and open again.

None are marked missing. But when I attempt to check a
new reference almost all come back with 'Name conflicts
with existing module, project, or object library.' after I
click 'ok'.
