I have the same question as sujith,
How can i dynamically create a flowchart in Visio 2007, i have the
data in a excel sheet and the same changes frequently.

Thanks for the response, but the issue is that my data changes frequently is
there something such as update button where the system will generate the
visio org chart instead of going through the org wizard when ever there is
any change in the excel file like we have in refresh in Pivot Chart/Table

Hello Sumanth and Sujith,

There's nothing out of the box as far as I'm aware. You could use the Link
Shapes to Data functionality in Visio Pro 2007 to link the Shape Data
fields. This would update the text shown in the chart, but not its
structure (even if you change who reports to who).

Best regards

Hello Sumanth,

Sorry. I misread your question. Sujith was asking about the Organization
Chart solution. For general linking of a Flowchart to Excel you need to
look at the Link Data to Shapes (in Visio 2007 Pro) from where you can link
external data from, say Excel, to Visio. This is a one-way process so you
won't be able to edit the diagram and then update Excel again. If this is
of interest you might find this link helpful:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio/HA100487831033.aspx

If the above isn't appropriate for you then you might want to look at the
Database Wizard, which has the benefit of being able to create a two-way
connection to your data source. Details for the DB Wizard are as follows:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio/HP850505671033.aspx

Now in terms of actually 'dynamically' generating a diagram from a data
source, you would need to employ a bit of code and some useful links here
are:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com:80/en-us/library/aa201773(office.10).aspx

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309603 (from Excel to Visio but you could
fairly easily turn this round)

http://www.visguy.com/2006/09/13/create-visio-flowcharts-programmatically/

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa701255.aspx (a c# example)

So, in summary, yes you can link your Excel data fairly easily, but the
dynamic generation is a bit more complicated.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

John
