Organize Using Colors not working anymore

Larry

I used to have my inbox set up to apply different colors
to incoming email based upon the "From" field. Some of my
filters have stopped working and I cannot get them to
function anymore. I have not made any changes (that I am
aware of) to any of the rules. I've tried to restate the
rules and add new ones without success. Some of my
filters are still functioning properly. Any ideas?

While the Organize pane is open, click the Automatic Formatting link at the
top right. Examine the individual rules carefully and see if you can figure
out the problem that way.

That's how I check my rules.. I haven't changed anything
yet some of my rules don't work anymore and some do. I
don't understand what's new and different unless it has
something to do with a recent Windows Update.... MS
software is quite buggy after all...

Can you give me an example of a rule that's no longer working?

Here are two under Organize Using Colors:

From Contains XYZ
Subject Contains LMNOP

make the font color green

Both used to work just fine and now no longer do. They
are very simple, one line rules.

While we're at it... I want to add a rule to filter
incoming emails using color when the From field is from a
specific domain (ie - *@pcmall.com) but when the email
doesn't show the email address in the From field, it only
shows the senders name. Can this be done?

For example, mail from PC Mall arrives in my Inbox with
only "PC Mall" in the From column (no quotes). In the
actual email, the senders address is "PC Mall
[[email protected]]" (no quotes). I tried to set up
my filter for *@pc-mall.com, and then [*@pc-mall.com] but
neither worked. Am I doing this right? Is it even
possible to do what I'm trying to do?

Thanks!

You haven't mentioned your Outlook version. I am using Outlook 2003 and I
just tried the two automatic formatting rules you described, both on the
same folder. I used the Advanced tab to set the criteria for each rule.
Both are working for me. Did you also use the Advanced tab to enter the
criteria (as opposed to the Messages tab)?

I think the only way you could get that one to work would be to open the
Automatic Formatting dialog, put "pcmall.com" in the "Search for the
word(s)" box, and "frequently-used text fields" in the "In" dropdown.
Hopefully you wouldn't come across too many other messages with "pcmall.com"
in a frequently used text field that *weren't* sent directly by PC Mall :)
