organizing files in folders

How do I set the computer so that files are arranged in their folder
alphabetically? or by number, if the title is something like "journal200803"
and its fellows "journal200804" and "journal200805"?

When I have opened a document, how can I view the possible fonts and font
sizes & change them as part of the editing? I could easily do that in XP-era
Word programs.

You can view your files in several different ways, alphabetically included.
How you do that depends on your operating system, not Office.

Which version of Word? It sounds like you have Word 2007 but I prefer to be
certain.
