OST Files & New Computer

S

Simon

Hello, I would be grateful for some tips on Outlook. Some info on what I am
using below:

Outlook 2003 with all latest patches.
Mailbox is exchange and run by my hosting company.
I work in cached mode. HTTP mode.

I need to rebuild the PC with a new drive but do not want to lose any emails.
When I have rebuilt the computer and installed Outlook will it download all
my emails from the server? Or will it delete them because there is nothing on
the new machine, i.e. it thinks they should have gone.

Secondly, with Outlook all closed down I tried to copy the .Ost file to an
external hard drive. But each time I try I am told it is partly locked. How
can I copy this file?
Could I then copy this file back into Outlook to save time downloading on
the first part?

Thank you all in advance.

When you create your new mail profile and its contained Exchange account, it
should rebuild your OST based on the server contents. Your old OST will be
unnecessary and you probably couldn't use it again anyway.
