Got volunteered ( by someone I couldn't refuse )
to set up a "quick" ( their term not mine )
one page site for someone opening a little "shop" ( franchise deal )
( this also includes Domain registration, Account Creation etc )

1. E-mail Corporate headquarters for guidelines
on sites for franchise locations.... Results/Replies = Zero
2. Visit corporate site and read terms of use etc, etc.
3..Check franchise package. Says use images from
corporate site.
4. There are none that are "downoadable"
5. Snag and edit what I need

Create page let them see it.
Hmmm,, can we have a "simple job application form" they can submit online.
sigh...Ok
preview again.
hmmm.... can we also have a version they can download and print
double sigh..........Ok
preview again.
aaahhhh...hhhhmmmm can we have a custom hit
counter like you make for some of those other sites.

Anyone want to guess at the time spent on this little
"one page site"

Hey Steve.....

While you are at it.... you should respond to that post a couple of days ago
requesting volunteers for a TV FAN (for profit) site. Heck ... she even
promised to let you use her as a reference. I think her name was
Suzanne????? < vbg >

I would bet that a majority of the folks that frequent here do volunteer
work... and it is a good thing.... BUT .... it can take up a lot more of
your time than you want.

So I guess you could look at it this way..... you now have another spire on
your crown in heaven!

Best to you...

Tom-
I know what you are talking about. I volunteered to do a website for my
local volunteer fire department ( I volunteer for that also) and I will
admit that I knew absolutely nothing of web design, much less FP. I have
been doing it for 7 months now and I have learned alot through my mistakes
(aka Hover Buttons) and moreso through the use of this NG.

Thank You to all who have helped me in the past.

I can sure remember the first time I "opened"
FrontPage 98 and started "trying" to make a web page.
I did a lot of looking at other sites using "View source"
Spent a month inserting hyperlinks and then editing
them before I figured out you could highlight some text and "then"
click the hyperlink Icon.
Also spent a month editing in html view to add target="_blank"
before I figured out it was in hyperlink properties.
And the list of these seems endless.

The biggest hurdle to me was learning the terminology so I knew
"what does what."
And believe me, I'm still learning. Every Day.
Lucked out quite a while back and found a little utility
at MSFT named Web Developer Accessories, that installed into
Internet Explorer. Places a listing named "Document tree"
on the IE right click context menu.
When clicked it opens a page listing all of the elements
and clicking on each listing displayed a list the element
attributes if they were used in the page.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in IE 6 with updates.

I have and I thought it was great. also their photomeister product makes
nice flash type photo galleries with minimal work.
all their stuff seems real nice.

the last time I volunteered was my daughter's school. it's one of those
snooty Montessori schools where if you're not a sycophant you're not in the
"in" crowd. when the asked me if I'd do it they must have thought I would
fall in with them. I bought them a very nice educational template from iced
mocha and spent about four hours setting it up.
then they're all "we've got someone who we asked a long time ago..." which
they could have told me up front. all this guy did was deploy an ugly
php-my website from Appalachian university with some ugly homemade graphics.
what a bunch of schmucks.
now the only thing I volunteer for is pallbearer since that job is fairly
short, never any special requests, and always ends the same. ;-)
