Actually anything with attachments goes to my delete folder, so if I am not expecting something from

Thomas,
The top image: 600102-orig.jpg never makes it to the browser cache files??
The only things that do are the html page and the other two images.

Thomas, it's a compression setting.
The image that won't display is using the following: JPG/JFIF, CMYK
What ever CMYK is??

The ones that do are only JPG/JFIF

Short for Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, and pronounced as separate letters.
CMYK is a color model in which all colors are described as a mixture of
these four process colors. CMYK is the standard color model used in offset
printing for full-color documents. Because such printing uses inks of these
four basic colors, it is often called four-color printing.
In contrast, display devices generally use a different color model called
RGB, which stands for Red-Green-Blue. One of the most difficult aspects of
desktop publishing in color is color matching -- properly converting the RGB
colors into CMYK colors so that what gets printed looks the same as what
appears on the monitor.

Then the issue appears to be the saving of the image with a CMYK color format and that the newer
browser can not handle this color format, whereas the older browsers at least make an attempt to
display it.

I have never seen any option for CMYK in Photoshop Elements when you use
"save for web," unless the complete Photoshop has it. If Photoshop and
Photoshop Elements have the same "save" options, you could tell your clients
to use "save for web" and check "optimized." That way, they will get
something completely usable. It would not be any big trick. It's the normal
way to save, and you should not have to intervene at all.

Most of the members of this organization are manufacturer, distributors, and retailers that normally
create images for printing of brochures and catalogs and would be using the full PhotoShop version,
which would explain the CMYK color format.

So I would say that this user assumes that the JPEG images they had already created for printing,
could also be used in their ad on the web as well.

So now that I know what is the cause of the problem, I can write instructions to help avoid this
issue in the future.

Thanks Eleanor, Wally, Rob, Steve and Tom P, and anyone else I haven't named for taking the time to
help me determine the cause of this problem.

Glad to help, learned something new.

Chalk up another one for good old IrfanView. It has a great Image Information feature.
Something else that caught my eye was that there were no DPI settings for the image. Not a problem
for a browser, but it would be needed for printing with or without the CMYK color format.

Thomas,

I know you're not running any PS apps, but you may want to check out the
trial version of Photoshop CS/Photoshop Elements.

If you've got a test box or Virutal PC, you can try them out and still
keep your system clean. ;)

Thanks, Jack, I have test machine with FP2002 and FP2003 which I could use, but I really have no
need for any other image/graphics app outside of MS Image Composer for development work.

I actually do own PhotoShop v4 and v5.0 which I could upgrade, but I really never like working with
it. I also own CorelDraw v7, which was my favorite graphics application before getting into web
development back in 1997. I think I have actually download every image application available at some
time, but I find Image Composer to be the best application for my needs.

I also have MS PhotoDraw and MS Digital Image Pro installed for messing around with my digital
camera photos.

Btw,

The PS setting is in Edit/Color Settings: Web Graphics Default at the top then you set the Working
Spaces below that...sRGBxxxxx for RGB, then the one for CMYK and Gray (Gamma) below that.

Ya usually don't wanna mess with them though.

I tell ya though I have inadvertantly created CMYK for web graphics by forgetting to change my
environment from print to web, and never had a "major" problem - after doing a few you realize
something's not right :) Usually you know when you look at the color palette...oops wrong one!

I see no difference in the standard RGB and Progressive RGB images, except the Progressive image is

Yep, I understand.

Just did a little 'esperiment....

Top two images are not visible...they are jpgs (your's) saved as standard and progressive CMYK...NO
display !!!

The bottom two are standard and progressive *RGB* jpgs and they display fine...

INTERESTING !!!

Both done in PS 6.
