Other Projects and Commitments Feature.

David

Hi,
-We're seeing some odd behavior with 'WORK' values in the Resource Usage
view when the 'Other Projects and Commitments' feature is activated. We
understand how to make the 'Feature' available by selecting/deselecting 'Load
Summary Resource Assignments' when logging in to Project Professional 2007
manually.

-When 'Load Summary Resource Assignments' is enabled, work is returning
bogus values for work listed under 'Other Projects and Commitments' for any
resource.
-For example; Resource-1 is on Plan-A, Plan-B, and Plan-C. Resource-1 only
has 100 hours total work on Plan-A, Plan-B and Plan-C all within January and
Feburary 2010. When I open Plan A with 'Load Summary Resource Assignments'
enabled , then expand 'Other Projects and Commitments' for Resource-1 there
are bogus work values for Resource-1 under 'Other Projects and Commitments'
which do not exist in Plan A, B C or any where else. We verfied
Resource-1's assignments in Resource Center-->Assignment View and with the
Data Analysis page both which return the expected work values for the
Resource-1 for the correct period.

-We then disabled 'Load Summary Resource Assignments' and opened all plans
on the server. Then reviewed the Resource Usage view for Resource-1 in
plan-A. The expected work values for Resource-1 are correct with 'Load
Summary Resource Assignments' disabled. It appears this problem only exist in
Pro when using the 'Load Summary Resource Assignments' feature.

-Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there an CU or SP which
addresses the problem or is this merely an ID10T error on my part?
-We're on Project Server 2007 SP1 and Project Professional 2007
12.0.6318.5000 SP1.
-Any help / suggestions anyone can provide is appreciated.
Thx,
-David.

You are definitely NOT an idiot! :) You are seeing a failure of this
feature that existed in EVERY version of Project Server, including the 2002,
2003, and 2007 versions. With the "Load Summary Resource Assignments"
option selected in the Login dialog, the system simply does NOT show the
correct Work amounts for the projects listed in the Other Projects and
Commitments section of the Resource Usage view. If you open those others
projects, however, then the Work numbers ARE correct.

Furthermore, with the "Load Summary Resource Assignments" option selected in
the Login dialog, if you attempt to level an overallocated resource in the
Resource Usage view, the information in the Other Projects and Commitments
section will screw up the leveing process, treating those other projects as
if they are a higher Priority number that the project you actually have
open.

It is for these reasons that I recommend you do not use the Load Summary
Resource Assignments option. A few months back, someone in the newsgroup
posted a link for a Hotfix related to this problem, but I cannot confirm by
personal experience that the Hotfix actually works. Hope this helps.
